It started with a spark.

In 1994, a single spark of inspiration ignited the idea of a community foundation for Prince George. Then-Mayor John Backhouse, inspired by what he had seen in other cities, shared the vision of creating a permanent source of support for local needs. Community leaders quickly gathered, bringing their energy and commitment to turn the idea into reality.

In October of 1995, the Prince George Community Foundation was officially incorporated, carrying with it the promise of a brighter future for our community.

That small spark of vision lit the way forward.

That spark became a glow.

From the first early gifts, the Foundation’s light grew steadily stronger. In the years since, more than 250 funds have been established under our care, supporting local charities, scholarships, arts, health, and vital services. What began as a spark has become a lasting glow, shining across Prince George and the people who call it home.

Together, WE SHINE.

Now, as we mark 30 years, the Prince George Community Foundation looks to the future with renewed purpose. The creation of the BRIGHT FUTURES: Rapid Response Fund honours the light sparked by our founders and ensures it continues to shine even brighter in the years ahead.

To launch the fund, the PGCF is contributing an initial $30,00, and we’re asking you to make a contribution in support of your community’s future. Every gift makes a difference and will continue to grow and give back to our community, forever.

Rapid Response means the fund will be flexible and responsive to the needs and changes of our community over time. Returns will be directed where they are currently needed most.
