Jan Ullstrom's parents emphasized the importance of education: that nobody can take it away from you and that you take it with you wherever you go. Jan emigrated to Vancouver from Sweden in 1957. He pursued his education through night classes while working full-time to become a Chartered Accountant. He married the love of his life, Barbara, who had emigrated from England as a nurse. They moved to Prince George in 1963 and in 2013 established this bursary to encourage and assist those overcoming challenges to improve their lives through higher education. It was also their way of thanking Canada for the opportunities it offered them and for their children.
