AED Request - Bill Bond Memorial Fund

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are effective and safe devices that have been specifically designed for anyone to use. In a situation where every second counts, we are focused on making AEDs accessible in as many public spaces as possible.

APPLY HERE

The Bill Bond Memorial Fund supports the placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in communities across Northern BC to enhance public safety and emergency preparedness. Organizations interested in applying must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants: non-profits, charities, neighborhood or community groups, that serve the public in Northern BC.

  2. Public Access & Benefit – AEDs must be placed in locations where they are accessible to the public or high-risk groups.

  3. Demonstrated Need – Applicants should explain why an AED is necessary for their location, including any history of medical emergencies, distance from emergency services, or high foot traffic.

  4. Commitment to Maintenance & Training – Recipients must commit to installing, maintaining the AED and ensuring staff or volunteers are trained in its use. The organization that receives the AED is responsible for:
    • Registering the AED with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) (a link and information will be provided at the time of possession).
    • Signing a service agreement with Heart & Stroke, which will be provided by Heart & Stroke at the time of placement.
    • Covering the cost of battery and pad replacements approximately every 4-5 years (estimated cost: $400-$450 total).

  5. Geographic Considerations – Priority may be given to rural or underserved communities with limited access to emergency medical services.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Complete the AED Application Form
  • Provide a brief statement outlining the proposed AED location, and how it will benefit the community.
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with funding allocated based on availability.

Suppliers of AEDs are able to provide local technical support and have knowledge about the device features.

We are only responsible for providing the funding for the AED equipment and are not responsible for the installation or maintenance of the AED equipment or associated costs.
